FIELD NOTES
Five checks before you enter the bay.
A minute of checking can save a wasted trip. Use this list whether you are trying a new automatic or a familiar DIY bay.
1. Check the actual wash type
Look for the touchless automatic option you intended to use. A location name, a “brushless” sign or the presence of DIY bays is not enough on its own.
2. Check vehicle fit
Measure the vehicle with roof racks, boxes and other accessories included. Read signs at the entrance. A published height limit does not confirm width, tire or accessory compatibility.
3. Read your vehicle instructions
Follow the manual for wash mode, automatic wipers, parking sensors, mirrors and other model-specific settings. Ask the operator if the wash instructions are unclear.
4. Check payment and access
Read the posted price and payment options before starting. A 24-hour published schedule does not guarantee that every bay, vacuum or payment terminal is working.
5. Check DIY equipment
Inspect the bay and tools. Keep the wand at the distance advised by the operator and your vehicle guidance. A shared foam brush is contact equipment, even inside a self-service bay.
